Monitoring Task Types

TingYun Network supports monitoring of different types of networks. Network types are divided into fixed network services and mobile services.
Fixed Network Services: Monitor fixed broadband network performance. Fixed broadband uses designated medium transmission, such as network cables, fiber optics, telephone lines. The access location for this type of internet connection is fixed.
Mobile Services: Monitor mobile network performance. Mobile networks refer to connecting to public networks using mobile devices such as mobile phones, PDAs, or other portable tools to achieve internet access.

Fixed Network Services#

Task types under fixed network services include: Ping monitoring, Full Page monitoring, Transaction Full Page monitoring, Streaming Media monitoring, Traceroute, MTR, Single File Download, Basic Page monitoring, Transaction Basic Page monitoring, Private Protocol monitoring, and Stream Push monitoring.

Page Monitoring#

Page monitoring accesses specified web page URLs through the monitoring client's browser, returns collected data to the platform for aggregation, and generates various analysis reports. Through analysis, page access effectiveness is understood, thereby optimizing page access performance.
Page monitoring supports overall page load performance and basic performance metrics, including network metrics, traffic metrics, content metrics, and browser event metrics. Commonly used metrics include: First Screen Time, Total Download Time, DNS Time, Connection Time, First Byte Time, etc.
Page monitoring is divided into Basic Page monitoring and Full Page monitoring. The difference is that Full Page monitoring not only monitors page response speed and availability but also monitors response speed and availability of all elements on the page (such as images, scripts) and displays them in waterfall chart form.

Transaction Page Monitoring#

The website's transaction flow is recorded through TingYun Network's self-developed script recorder to generate an execution script. The script is uploaded to the monitoring platform, which distributes the recorded script to clients. The client executes the script flow and returns access data.
Transaction page monitoring monitors the key process (steps) of the website, such as the purchase flow of an e-commerce website. In this flow, accessing the homepage, product search, browsing details, and placing an order are monitored. Performance of the transaction processing flow is analyzed through returned data to improve the flow and analyze bottlenecks in the transaction processing flow.
Transaction page monitoring is divided into Transaction Basic Page monitoring and Transaction Full Page monitoring. The difference is that Transaction Full Page monitoring not only monitors page response speed and availability but also monitors response speed and availability of all elements on the page and displays them in waterfall chart form.

Single File Download#

File monitoring refers to the monitoring client downloading a single file from the website server to obtain the performance when actual internet users download that file. It can be used for download monitoring of audio or video files. File monitoring mainly obtains network performance metrics, including: Average Download Speed, DNS Time, Connection Time, First Byte Time, etc.

Ping Monitoring#

Initiates Ping monitoring to the target host through the monitoring client, recording network latency and packet loss during the monitoring process. It is usually used to check whether the network is smooth or the network connection speed.

Traceroute Monitoring#

Traceroute monitoring records the IP addresses, cities, and ISP attributes of gateways or routers that the route passes through. Through route monitoring, the most frequently accessed route lines and route quality for accessing the website are discovered.

MTR Monitoring#

Similar to Tracert, MTR is also a tool for network quality diagnosis that can obtain network quality for each hop of the route. However, MTR can obtain more performance metrics, including jitter values and average hop counts. MTR is an advanced version of Tracert.

Streaming Media Monitoring#

The Network monitoring client has embedded mainstream streaming media players. When monitoring a specified streaming media file, the monitoring client will automatically call the relevant player to play the file. Currently, playback forms support both live streaming and video on demand. Supported streaming media types include Flash, MediaPlayer, REAL, SilverLight players, and various formats such as flv, mp4, m3u8, mp3, wmv, wma, m4a, etc.

Stream Push Monitoring#

Stream push refers to the process of transmitting packaged content from the collection stage to the server. Stream push monitoring simulates the scenario of a streamer conducting live streaming. Our client has a built-in push tool. Customers only need to provide a URL, and we can simulate streaming from various locations across the country through synthetic monitoring.

Private Protocol Monitoring#

Private protocols refer to various network protocols other than standard HTTP and streaming media protocols, such as email, games, and proprietary protocol applications customized and developed by enterprises themselves.
Supported private protocol types:
Email protocols: POP3, IMAP4, ESMTP
File transfer protocols: FTP, SFTP, etc.
Private game protocols: Game login, game lobby, etc.
Instant messaging protocols: Various IM protocols

Mobile Services#

Task types under mobile services include: Physical Device Ping monitoring, Physical Device File Download monitoring, Physical Device Full Page monitoring, Physical Device Transaction Full Page monitoring, Physical Device Basic Page monitoring, Physical Device SMS monitoring, Physical Device Streaming Media monitoring, Physical Device Private Protocol monitoring, and Physical Device Transaction Single Page monitoring.

Physical Device Page Monitoring#

Mobile network monitoring is consistent with traditional network monitoring in monitoring principles. It accesses specified web page URLs through mobile monitoring clients, returns and aggregates data collected during the access process, and generates various analysis reports. It typically monitors WAP pages or mobile pages of websites.

Physical Device File Download Monitoring#

Downloads a single file from the website server through the mobile client to obtain the performance of internet users obtaining that file under mobile networks.

Physical Device SMS Monitoring#

This task can help customers test whether the SMS gateway service status is working normally and the time it takes for SMS to reach mobile phones. TingYun deploys monitoring nodes nationwide, calling customer APIs for SMS requests. When SMS is received, it is considered as SMS arrival.

Physical Device Streaming Media Monitoring#

Integrates a video player based on the ijkplayer open-source framework within the client, achieving video monitoring from the mobile side.

Physical Device Private Protocol Monitoring#

Real device private protocol monitoring integrates various customer private protocol components into the general monitoring client software through open universal interfaces. Supported types include: ping-mob, udp-mob, and dzh-mob.
