In daily life, our mobile phones receive a large number of SMS verification codes every day: "[xxx] Your verification code is xxx (valid for 5 minutes)". In the Internet era, a large number of websites, mobile apps and small programs are using SMS verification codes as security technical measures to verify user identities. During e-commerce festivals and holidays, corporate promotions, lottery draws, interactive activities, etc. also bring member marketing SMS to its peak. There are many scenarios in life where SMS is used between companies and users, and our daily lives are inseparable from SMS.

The increase in SMS application scenarios has given rise to more SMS service providers. However, for enterprises, they have no control over the service quality of SMS service providers. Therefore, enterprises need data to quantify the service quality such as delivery rate and timeliness of SMS service providers. In addition, larger enterprises generally use multiple SMS service providers to avoid affecting end users when problems arise with one provider. However, enterprises do not know which SMS service provider has good service quality and cannot choose one.

The normal SMS sending process is as follows (taking an enterprise sending a verification code as an example):

After the user enters the mobile phone number on the company's website and clicks to obtain the "verification code", the company's SMS API interface is triggered.

The API interface notifies the SMS gateway to pass the SMS through the operator's network and send the verification code to the user's mobile phone.

During this process, the SMS may be delayed or the verification code may fail to be obtained due to various reasons such as the network, SMS gateway load, and end-user equipment.

Solution

Tingyun’s solution is to use Tingyun’s mobile 4G and 5G Synthetic mobile phone monitoring clients deployed across the country to simulate active monitoring of SMS arrival rates and delays, and to verify whether the sent content is correct. Monitored indicators include SMS arrival time and SMS arrival availability. Supports viewing by operator, provincial operator, city operator, province, and city dimensions.
